The Best Time to Consume Honey and Ghee Daily

Honey and ghee are two of the most treasured foods in Indian kitchens — and in Ayurveda, when you eat them can matter as much as the foods themselves. Here is a simple guide to the best time to consume honey and ghee daily to get the most from both.

The best time to have honey

Early morning, on an empty stomach, is the classic time for honey. A spoon of raw honey in a glass of warm (not hot) water is a gentle, time-honoured way to start the day — it supports digestion, soothes the throat and gives natural energy.

One important rule from Ayurveda: never heat or cook honey. Heating raw honey above warm temperatures is believed to change its qualities and destroy its natural enzymes. Always add honey to warm — never boiling — water or milk.

The best time to have ghee

Ghee is wonderfully versatile, and there are two especially good times to enjoy it:

  • In the morning: a teaspoon of ghee on an empty stomach, or stirred into warm water, is traditionally used to support digestion and lubricate the body from within.
  • With your meals: a little ghee on warm rice, roti or dal helps the body absorb fat-soluble nutrients and makes food easier to digest.

Honey and ghee together? Be careful

Ayurveda advises against mixing equal quantities of honey and ghee, as they are considered to have opposite qualities. Enjoy them at different times of day rather than in equal measure together.

A simple daily ritual

  • Morning: warm water with a spoon of raw honey.
  • With meals: a little ghee on your rice or roti.
  • Always: keep honey raw and unheated, and choose pure A2 ghee.

Of course, these daily rituals only work if your honey and ghee are genuinely pure. At Vanamati, our raw honey and A2 Bilona ghee are sourced directly from farmers and quality-checked at every step — so every spoonful is the real thing.
